Draft Profile: Bio
Following high school, Wake joined BYU.In 2019 as a freshman Wake saw action in 11 games for the Cougars as he ran for only 6 yards on 3 attempts for only 2.0 yards per carry, with no TDs, with no fumbles. As a receiver he made no receptions for no yards.
As a sophomore in 2020 he played 12 games. and rushed for only 15 yards on 5 carries for only 3.0 ypc, with 2 TDs, with no fumbles. In the passing game he pulled in only 8 receptions for 114 yards.
In 2021 as a junior Wake saw action in 11 games for the Cougars. He ran for only 8 yards on 3 attempts for only 2.7 ypc, with no TDs, with no fumbles. As a receiver he made only 14 receptions for 148 yards.
Scouting Report: Strengths
- Solid receiver in the flat, capable of running through tackles on the edge to move the chains. Flexible enough to catch passes thrown behind him.
- Demonstrated the ability to track the ball over his shoulder. Good flexibility and balance to adjust to the poorly thrown pass. Good vision and patience for screens.
- Underrated blocker. Cognizant pass defender who is willing to meet a linebacker in the gap.
- Fights for extra yardage and is reliable in short-yardage situations.
- Thick frame and runs with power, showing the leg drive to push the pile. Runs balanced and close to the ground with the natural strength to stay on his feet through contact as defenders slip off of him - load to tackle and runs through arm tackles.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
- His playing speed is less than elite. Wake won’t run past defenders like Wake did at the college level.
- Wake won't threaten the top of the defense.
- He’ll be coming to the NFL from a wide-open spread offense in which he ran a limited route tree.
