Training Camp Spotlight Players

Amidst the sweltering summer sun, a group of NFL hopefuls is making waves on the practice field. These diamond-in-the-rough players are captivating the attention of coaches and scouts, demonstrating their potential through drills and scrimmages.

Running Back, D'Onta Foreman - Chicago Bears

Foreman was a free agent, and his potential and flashes of talent have marked his NFL career; now, he is a running back for the Chicago Bears. Injuries have hindered the athlete’s NFL career, and at the age of 27 only has 443 career carries.

After rushing for 914 yards and a career-high 4.5 yards per run last season, the Chicago Bears gave D'Onta Foreman a one-year, $2 million contract. Foreman is thriving in and carrying the name of Chicago Bears at the training camp.

As of the latest events, Foreman participated in two drives in their 24-17 preseason loss to the Indianapolis Colts. During the play, he gained 12 yards on three carries and six yards on one reception. Foreman has played in both preseason games as the team's RB2, but Roschon Johnson, a fourth-round rookie, may be gaining ground on him.

Linebacker, Drue Tranquill - Kansas City Chiefs

From his rookie season, Tranquill showed a promising future, demonstrating his ability to contribute on defense and special teams. Now, Tranquill is one of the rising stars in the training camp as the linebacker for Kansas City Chiefs.

After spending four seasons with the division-rival Chargers, Tranquill signed a one-year, $3 million contract with Kansas City Chiefs.

Given the Chiefs' depth at linebacker, Tranquill might not even make the starting lineup. But he can come in and play any of the positions well, so that he will be a threat on the field.

Tight End Irv Smith Jr. - Cincinnati Bengal

Throughout his early NFL career, Irv Smith Jr. has been praised for his route-running and ability to create mismatches against defenders. He has been utilized both as a traditional in-line tight end and a move-tight end who can line up in various positions to exploit defensive weaknesses.

Now, he’s one of the Cincinnati Bengals’ tight ends, showing off his skills in the NFL training camp. With a $1.75 million, one-year contract with the Cincinnati Bengals, Smith will enter the season as the 37th-highest-paid tight end in the NFL.

Despite being the Bengals' newest starter at tight end, Joe Burrow's recent calf injury has prevented him from establishing a good playing relationship with the quarterback.

Cornerback, Marcus Peters - Las Vegas Raiders

It was a bit of a wait before an NFL team recognized Marcus Peters' potential. Still, the Las Vegas Raiders made a good move by offering him an opportunity in their revamped cornerback group this offseason.

Peters was known for his aggressive style of play, which sometimes led to big plays for his team but also carried some risks. He continues showcasing his playmaking skills, contributing to a strong defensive unit during NFL training camp.

Peters has already impacted the team during training camp and has done so quickly. He is one of the league's top cornerbacks when he is at his best and not injured. That means the Raiders had successfully signed a starting cornerback for one season at a $3 million deal.

Wide Receiver, DJ Chark Jr - Carolina Panthers

Despite missing numerous games due to injuries last season, Chark Jr. was able to participate in training camp. Chark Jr. has been complimented for his ability to spread the field, make contested catches, and serve as a downfield target.

His work ethic and determination to improve his talents have also been noted. Chark Jr. wowed the Carolina Panthers throughout training camp and is now a crucial squad member. The Panthers might use him as their primary downfield pass catcher thanks to a one-year, $5 million contract he recently signed.

Wide Receiver, Braxton Berrios - Miami Dolphins

Berrios was one of the free-agent steals in NFL training camp, and now he’s wearing the Miami Dolphins jersey. He is praised for his work ethic, determination, and ability to contribute in multiple facets of the game.

Following signing a one-year, $3.5 million contract, Berrios has emerged as one of the highest-paying free agents this season. His reliable wide receiver and return option role has earned him recognition among fans and the coaching staff.

As of the most recent NFL developments, Berrios converted three of his four targets into catches for 33 yards and a touchdown during a preseason victory over the Houston Texans.
