Most Talented Quarterback Prospects in the 2025 NFL Draft Class

The upcoming 2025 NFL Draft features a quarterback class that is perhaps a step down from recent years.

Last year, we saw a record six quarterbacks selected in the first round, five of which were selected in the top ten. Caleb Williams' selection by the Chicago Bears at number one overall stole all the headlines with NBC News and the likes, but once the season got underway, it became clear that the number two-selected Jayden Daniels was the superstar of the class.

The former LSU superstar completely revolutionized the Washington Commanders last season, leading them to several marquee victories and their first playoff berth since 2020. Not only that, but Yahoo Sports reported on him leading his side to a first postseason victory in 19 years with the wildcard round win against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, as well as helping them to the NFC Championship game for the first time since 1991.

Now, a new crop is in the headlines, and while they may not be garnering the respect of those who came before them a year ago, some play-callers are still brimming with potential. Here's our pick of them.

Shedeur Sanders

Most of the bookies' attention heading into the 2025 draft has been centered around Cam Ward. On April 14, outlets such as Betway think that he is a shoo-in to be selected first overall, pricing him at -10000 to be claimed first overall. However, it's the +5000 shot Shedeur Sanders that we feel is the most talented out of this year's quarterback class.

The player has been the face of Colorado football’s resurgence under head coach (and father) Deion Sanders. Coming off a stellar 2024 season, Sanders led the Buffaloes to a 9-win campaign and narrowly missed out on the Big 12 title game. His 74% completion rate exemplifies his precision under center, with 4,134 passing yards, 37 touchdowns, and just 10 interceptions highlighting his efficiency.

Sanders operates like a surgeon in the pocket, processing defenses quickly and making anticipatory throws. His ability to throw with a fine touch and trajectory earned comparisons to Jared Goff. However, his determination to extend plays can occasionally backfire, as he has held onto the ball too long, leading to sacks. If the Browns overlook him at number two overall in favor of Travis Hunter - a five-star prospect with NFLDraftBuzz - or Abdul Carter, then the QB could well end up going outside of the top five.

Cam Ward

After transferring from Washington State to Miami, Cam Ward elevated the Hurricanes, throwing for 4,313 yards, 39 touchdowns, and just seven interceptions in 2024. His big arm and penchant for making "wow" plays turned heads nationwide. His gunslinger mentality invites comparisons to some of the greats, and it's that which has enticed the top-of-the-board Titans who will more than likely make him the first overall pick.

Ward's quick release and velocity on throws make him a threat at all levels, though he’s been known to force unnecessary risks. Musings around his decision to sit out during the second half of Miami’s bowl game might raise questions for NFL scouts, but his physical toolset is undeniable. We have already penciled him in at No. 1, and it would be an almighty shocker if he isn't heading to Nissan Stadium in a couple of months.

Jalen Milroe

Jalen Milroe is arguably the most athletic quarterback in the class. The Alabama standout produced 2,844 passing yards and 16 touchdowns in 2024, adding another 726 yards and 10 scores on the ground. He combines raw speed, power, and a cannon-like arm that instantly changes defensive alignments.

His physical build brings to mind a young Michael Vick, but Milroe’s development as a passer lags behind his running prowess. While he thrives on deep throws and designed runs, his struggles with accuracy on short and intermediate routes leave room for doubt. As we have seen in recent years with current Baltimore Ravens superstar Lamar Jackson though, it is possible to improve those flaws with the right coaching and with experience at the top level.

Milroe is expected to be selected midway through the fifth round, and he could well be an option for the Pittsburgh Steelers at 21st overall. They have just allowed both Russell Wilson and Justin Fields to leave Acrisure Stadium, while Aaron Rodgers is rumored to be arriving. Learning under the all-time great - should he don the black and yellow - could provide the perfect platform for Milroe to be the face of the Steelers
