Draft Profile: Bio
Camar Wheaton from Lakeview Centennial High School was rated a 4-star recruit by ESPN and handed a 4-star grade by 247 Sports. Following high school, Wheaton joined SMU.

In 2022 as a freshman Wheaton saw action in 9 games for the Mustangs as he ran for 289 yards on 53 attempts for an excellent 5.5 yards per carry, with 2 TDs, with no fumbles. As a receiver he made just 5 receptions for 31 yards.

As a sophomore in 2023 he played 9 games. and rushed for 410 yards on 82 carries for 5.0 ypc, with 5 TDs, with no fumbles. In the passing game he pulled in just 3 receptions for 44 yards.
Scouting Report: Strengths
  • Wheaton shows good vision and good explosion upfield once Wheaton plants his foot. He has lateral movement skills and enough speed to threaten big plays. He’s excellent in the passing game, capable of flexing out as a receiver and creating mismatches against linebackers, and he’s a solid back in the screen game.
  • He’s patient, letting blocks develop then accelerating. He runs with a good forward lean and consistently falls forward.
  • Wheaton finishes runs well and flashes the ability to get small and squeeze through traffic.
  • His initial burst is excellent, and he’s capable of running out of a traditional setup or taking the ball lined up next to a quarterback in shotgun.
  • Once he plants his foot, he’s explosive moving upfield, and his 0-to-60 acceleration is enough to catch defenses off-guard.
  • He’s decisive once he locates a hole and gets through quickly. His ability to accelerate and his good top-end speed allow him to outrun angles, and he has the quickness and lateral agility to make defenders miss in space.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
  • Wheaton seems comfortable in traffic to the point where Wheaton doesn’t make the effort to create separation.
  • Has a lean frame and lacks ideal bulk or muscle for the position. Doesn't have great strength, lacking a power element to his game to break many tackles.
  • Does not always read blocks behind pulling guards. May not be big enough to move piles at the next level and has a tendency to bury his head too soon.

*Percentile Ranking in Player's Position Group (NFL Combine Historical Data): This percentile reflects how a player's specific statistics rank in comparison to historical performances at the NFL Combine, specifically within their position group. A higher percentile indicates a better performance. For instance, being in the 90th percentile for a particular stat means the player outperformed 90% of their peers in that category.

*Similarity Percentage: This percentage is calculated based on a comprehensive analysis of various factors, including height, weight, 40-yard dash times, on-field performance statistics, and overall player rating. The analysis is conducted against our database of draft prospects from 2021 to 2023. This similarity score helps in evaluating how closely a current prospect aligns with past prospects. It is important to note, however, that this score reflects similarities based on college production and attributes, and does not account for eventual success or performance in the NFL.
