When a board-topper like Cam Skattebo slides to Round 6, Pick 27, you do not overthink it, and the Commanders did not. No fireworks, but a solid B-.
If Bailey pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped tight end, which is a strange place to end up.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 26 they get a matchup problem out wide. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Charles Grant in the 59th overall pick, miles early. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Value said wait; David Bailey in the Round 3 slot says they were not listening. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Barrett Carter in slot 146 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
The board fumbled Cam Skattebo all the way to the 202nd pick, and they scooped it up. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They will replay Seth McLaughlin at Round 7, Pick 19 for years; that is how good the value is. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They barely believed it either: Ollie Gordon II still on the board at No. 246. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
