The value of the weekend has a name and a slot: Drake Maye, the 36th overall pick, roughly 31 picks past where he belonged.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. The Hopper pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. They will regret leaving tight end for another day if the season turns on it.
Adding Derwin James Jr. by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies.
Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Marvin Harrison Jr. and all.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 5 they get a go-to option on the outside. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They will replay Drake Maye at the 36th pick for years; that is how good the value is. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They barely believed it either: Terrion Arnold still on the board at Round 2, Pick 5. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Nate Wiggins at slot 40 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Tyler Nubin at pick 67 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
The board had Christian Haynes higher than pick No. 78, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Value with a capital V on Dominick Puni in the 100th overall pick, a genuine coup. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Good price on Roger Rosengarten in the Round 5 slot, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Ty'Ron Hopper at the Round 5 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
They took Nathan Thomas at par in the 222nd pick, which is nothing to complain about. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
