After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Raiders committed. Michael Penix Jr. is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
Landing Ali that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
Michael Penix Jr. in the 9th pick is fair value, right on his grade. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They took Xavier Worthy at par in No. 44, which is nothing to complain about. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A straight-up fair deal on Christian Haynes at pick 77, value and slot in agreement. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Leonard Taylor III at pick No. 112 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Good price on Nehemiah Pritchett in the 150th overall pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A tidy little value on Nathan Thomas in the Round 6 slot, a step better than break-even. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Steal is underselling it; Rasheen Ali at Round 7, Pick 14 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
