The Chargers' one glaring miss is wide receiver, a need they left exactly as they found it.
The Bertrand pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. Reaching for Allen left real value on the table behind him. Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
They took Brock Bowers at par in Round 1, Pick 5, which is nothing to complain about. It fills a real need, too.
Chop Robinson in pick 37 is fair value, right on his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
No edge and no loss on Caelen Carson in the 69th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Tyler Davis is a better player than the Round 4 slot suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They liked Braelon Allen enough to skip the value, taking him in slot 142. A need, and now a little less of one.
Roger Rosengarten slipping to No. 183 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They read the board right and JD Bertrand was the payoff at the 205th overall pick. A minor need, but a need all the same.
