The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Cowboys watched Jaylin Simpson slide 86 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it. The cost of the Glaze reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered. Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 24th pick they get a long-term starter on the line. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Xavier Worthy slid further than he should have, and the Round 2 slot is lovely value for the wide receiver. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
You do not let a cornerback like T.J. Tampa reach pick 87 and blink. They did not. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A wild overpay on Delmar Glaze in the 174th overall pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
No drama and no debate, Dillon Johnson went about where he belonged in pick No. 216. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Steele Chambers at slot 233 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the linebacker. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Jaylin Simpson in Round 7, Pick 24 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
