You could see the war room lean forward. Zy Alexander at pick 197 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. A small leak at the table, if not a fatal one. Speights has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 19 they get an anchor for the defensive front at fair value.
A tidy little value on Kamari Lassiter in pick 43, a step better than break-even. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They took Jackson Powers-Johnson at par in the 75th pick, which is nothing to complain about. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
The board had Devontez Walker higher than the Round 4 slot, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Jordan Travis at the 148th overall pick is the proof. It fills a real need, too.
By-the-book stuff, Jo'Quavious Marks at pick No. 189 squarely in line with his ranking. The roster fit checks out.
Steal is underselling it; Zy Alexander at No. 197 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Omar Speights at slot 219 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
No edge and no loss on Reuben Fatheree II in the 232nd overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
