The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Commanders watched Trevor Etienne slide 32 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
The cost of the Jackson reach is exactly the players who went right after him. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through tight end.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 29 they get a problem off the edge at a price that makes it sweeter.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Donovan Jackson this early at Round 2, Pick 29. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Ozzy Trapilo in No. 79 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Darius Alexander in pick No. 149 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A wide receiver of that caliber at the 207th pick is the definition of value, full stop. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Taking Jacob Parrish in the Round 7 slot is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They barely believed it either: Trevor Etienne still on the board at the 250th overall pick. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
