Nobody else had Thor Griffith anywhere near the Round 7 slot. The Texans did, by 67 spots, and that gap is the whole story.
That Bowman Jr. pick is the receipt they will wave around later. That running back hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 3 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Good work on the whole, with running back the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 25th overall pick they get a disruptive interior force. The biggest hole, addressed.
A tidy little value on Marcus Mbow in the 58th pick, a step better than break-even. The roster fit checks out.
A clean, defensible pick in pick No. 89 with a little surplus value in Donovan Jackson. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Savion Williams in Round 4, Pick 26, plain and simple. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They will replay Billy Bowman Jr. at slot 167 for years; that is how good the value is. A minor itch, scratched.
They reached into another round for Thor Griffith, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
