The board owed the Texans one, and it paid up: Bhayshul Tuten, the No. 156 name on the board, sitting there at the Round 7 slot like a gift left on the doorstep.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. Job largely done: running back settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 25 they get a mismatch in the passing game at a price that makes it sweeter.
Matthew Golden slid further than he should have, and the 58th pick is lovely value for the wide receiver. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A tidy little value on Dylan Fairchild in Round 3, Pick 25, a step better than break-even. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Darius Alexander at pick 126 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Sonny Styles in slot 165 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
A top-tier running back at a bargain, Bhayshul Tuten in the Round 7 slot, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
