Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Texans were there to profit. Bhayshul Tuten, the No. 164 name on the board, should have been long gone before slot 243.
They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. They are betting Williams proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
They left with running back solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 25 they get a disruptive interior force. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Taking Tyler Booker in the Round 2 slot is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Savion Williams in No. 89 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Somehow Mason Taylor was still sitting there in slot 127, and they pounced on premier tight end value. It fills a real need, too.
Lathan Ransom at pick 167 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Steal is underselling it; Bhayshul Tuten at the 243rd pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
