The Texans did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Sonny Styles fell into slot 165. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.
Reaching for Colby left real value on the table behind him. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped running back, which is a strange place to end up. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 4 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 25 they get a wrecking ball inside. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Tyler Warren at No. 58 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. The roster fit checks out.
The board fumbled Jalen Royals all the way to the 89th overall pick, and they scooped it up. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A wild overpay on Connor Colby in the Round 4 slot, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They barely believed it either: Sonny Styles still on the board at pick No. 165. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
They talked themselves into Thor Griffith at the 241st pick, and the board did not agree. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
