Somebody in Round 7, Pick 25 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Texans sat still while Cam Skattebo, the No. 110 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
If Capehart pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher. Job largely done: running back settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
They paid sticker price for Emeka Egbuka in Round 1, Pick 25, and that is fine. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
The board fumbled Tyler Booker all the way to pick No. 58, and they scooped it up. It fills a real need, too.
Taking Tyler Warren in No. 89 is close to grand larceny; a tight end that good had no business lasting this long. The roster fit checks out.
DeMonte Capehart at the 126th overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Sonny Styles at the 165th pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Cam Skattebo at slot 241 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
