Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Texans were there to profit. Sonny Styles, the No. 122 name on the board, should have been long gone before Round 5, Pick 28. No fireworks, but a solid B.
They are betting Griffith proves the room right and everyone else wrong. That running back hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 25 they get a pocket-collapsing interior rusher. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They will replay Tyler Booker at the 58th pick for years; that is how good the value is. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Tez Johnson. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
By-the-book stuff, Oronde Gadsden II at the Round 4 slot squarely in line with his ranking. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A top-tier safety at a bargain, Sonny Styles in the 165th overall pick, plain and simple. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Thor Griffith. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
