You build a draft on nights like this. Bhayshul Tuten had no business being available in slot 239, and the Texans did the only sane thing and turned in the card.
They punted on wide receiver, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The Nwankpa reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.
On the needs board they went 4 of 8, with running back the one that mattered most. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but wide receiver.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 19th pick they get protection for the quarterback, though the board says they badly overpaid.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Tyler Warren at pick No. 55 is the proof. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Deone Walker at Round 3, Pick 22. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Kevin Winston Jr. in pick 122 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Value said wait; Xavier Nwankpa in No. 164 says they were not listening. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
The board fumbled Bhayshul Tuten all the way to the Round 7 slot, and they scooped it up. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
