Nobody had Thor Griffith this high, and it is not close. The Texans reached 67 spots to get him at pick 243.
That Alexander pick is the receipt they will wave around later. For all the activity, running back went untouched, which is hard to explain.
They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a mismatch in the passing game, and a steal at that. A clean fit for the roster.
A big swing on Donovan Jackson at Round 2, Pick 26, well ahead of any board in the building. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A slide stopped in No. 89, with Tate Ratledge worth more than the price. It fills a real need, too.
Steal is underselling it; Savion Williams at slot 127 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
You do not let an interior defensive lineman like Darius Alexander reach pick 167 and blink. They did not. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A wild overpay on Thor Griffith in pick No. 243, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
