Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Texans were there to profit. Lathan Ransom, the No. 103 name on the board, should have been long gone before slot 165.
If Griffith pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. They will regret leaving running back for another day if the season turns on it. On the needs board they went 4 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the running back spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 25th pick they get a mismatch in the passing game at a price that makes it sweeter. A clean fit for the roster.
A reach on Jalen Royals in pick 58; the board had better options right there. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Good price on Dylan Fairchild in Round 3, Pick 25, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They reached a country mile for Vernon Broughton at the Round 4 slot, and the board is aghast. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A safety of that caliber at slot 165 is the definition of value, full stop. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Thor Griffith in No. 241, miles early. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
