The Texans spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Bhayshul Tuten, the No. 165 name on the board, in the Round 7 slot. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with running back the one that mattered most. They trusted the board more than the depth chart.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a run-stuffing presence up front at a price that makes it sweeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Tyler Warren in the 58th overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They did well to land Donovan Jackson in Round 3, Pick 25, just ahead of his grade. The roster fit checks out.
You do not let a wide receiver like Savion Williams reach slot 127 and blink. They did not. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Kevin Winston Jr. in pick 167 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A minor itch, scratched.
They will replay Bhayshul Tuten at the 243rd pick for years; that is how good the value is. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
