The Texans did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Tez Johnson fell into the Round 5 slot.
Griffith has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. The running back hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
Fair-plus on Kenneth Grant, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Taking Emeka Egbuka in pick 58 is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Donovan Jackson in Round 3, Pick 25 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It fills a real need, too.
Savion Williams in pick No. 127 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Somehow Tez Johnson was still sitting there in the 167th pick, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Thor Griffith in slot 243, miles early. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
