Somebody in slot 243 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Texans sat still while Robert Spears-Jennings, the No. 145 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.

That running back hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Interior defensive lineman was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.

Good work on the whole, with running back the one box left unchecked.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.25 · Pick 25 · Kenneth Grant · DT · rank 19
In the 25th overall pick they get a pocket-collapsing interior rusher at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
R2.26 · Pick 58 · Walter Nolen · DT · rank 17
Walter Nolen at Round 2, Pick 26 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R3.25 · Pick 89 · Jalon Walker · LB · rank 20
They robbed the room for Jalon Walker here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R4.26 · Pick 127 · Dylan Fairchild · OG · rank 94
Steal is underselling it; Dylan Fairchild at slot 127 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R5.28 · Pick 167 · Mason Taylor · TE · rank 82
Mason Taylor at pick 167 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It fills a real need, too.
R7.25 · Pick 243 · Robert Spears-Jennings · S · rank 145
A safety of that caliber at pick No. 243 is the definition of value, full stop. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
