The Texans did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Matthew Golden fell into the 89th pick. The bottom line is a respectable B.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped running back, which is a strange place to end up. On the needs board they went 4 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 25 they get a run-stuffing presence up front. The biggest hole, addressed.
Tyler Booker in pick 58 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They barely believed it either: Matthew Golden still on the board at slot 89. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Savion Williams at No. 127 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Circle this one: Oronde Gadsden II at the Round 5 slot is a fall that decides a draft. The roster fit checks out.
A safety of that caliber at the 243rd overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
