Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Texans spent the 243rd pick on Thor Griffith, a name most had 67 spots down the list.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Bowman Jr.. Leaving running back unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 25th pick they get a mismatch in the passing game, and a steal at that. A real need, handled.
A quiet steal in No. 58: Matthew Golden for less than the market said. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They did well to land Donovan Jackson in the 89th overall pick, just ahead of his grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Oronde Gadsden II in pick No. 127 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They barely believed it either: Billy Bowman Jr. still on the board at Round 5, Pick 28. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Value said wait; Thor Griffith in pick 243 says they were not listening. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
