The board owed the Texans one, and it paid up: Jaylin Noel, the No. 102 name on the board, sitting there at Round 5, Pick 28 like a gift left on the doorstep. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.
Every board in the league had Griffith lower, and that gap is the story. A whole weekend of picks and running back is somehow still a want. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
The offense got the lion's share of the attention.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 25 they get a red-zone target to build around, outstanding value to boot. A clean fit for the roster.
A safety of that caliber at the 58th overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Donovan Jackson at No. 89 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Jordan Phillips at the 127th pick is money in the bank, a interior defensive lineman taken below his worth. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Somehow Jaylin Noel was still sitting there in the Round 5 slot, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They reached a country mile for Thor Griffith at the 243rd overall pick, and the board is aghast. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
