Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Upton Stout got past him. The Texans do not have to explain a thing at Round 7, Pick 25. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
They will need Lachey to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped running back, which is a strange place to end up.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 25th overall pick they get an anchor for the defensive front at a price that makes it sweeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
A interior defensive lineman of that caliber at slot 58 is the definition of value, full stop. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They went early on Savion Williams in Round 3, Pick 25, and the value did not follow. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Jackson Slater at No. 127 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Luke Lachey at pick No. 167 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
You do not let a safety like Upton Stout reach pick 243 and blink. They did not. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
