Somebody in slot 241 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Texans sat still while Ollie Gordon II, the No. 168 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.
A whole weekend of picks and wide receiver is somehow still a want. If Ratledge pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
Job largely done: running back settled and 3 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a building block for the line, even if it was a touch early. A clean fit for the roster.
Marcus Mbow at pick 57 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A clean, defensible pick in No. 89 with a little surplus value in Darrell Jackson Jr.. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Steal is underselling it; Andrew Mukuba at the 126th overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Somehow Maxwell Hairston was still sitting there in slot 164, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They will replay Ollie Gordon II at the 241st pick for years; that is how good the value is. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
