When a board-topper like Billy Bowman Jr. slides to the Round 5 slot, you do not overthink it, and the Texans did not.
Reaching for Griffith left real value on the table behind him. For all the activity, running back went untouched, which is hard to explain.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 25th overall pick they get a seam-stretching tight end, outstanding value to boot. A real need, handled.
Isaiah Bond at pick No. 58 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They read the board right and Tate Ratledge was the payoff at slot 89. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
No edge and no loss on Darius Alexander in the 126th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Billy Bowman Jr. at the Round 5 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Thor Griffith in Round 7, Pick 25 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
