Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Texans spent the Round 4 slot on Vernon Broughton, a name the board had a full 29 spots lower. The bottom line is a respectable B.
The running back spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. McMillan falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
Good work on the whole, with running back the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 25 they get a difference-maker at receiver, and a steal at that. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Tyler Booker at No. 58 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They let Elijah Arroyo come to them and pounced at the 89th overall pick. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A big swing on Vernon Broughton at pick 127, well ahead of any board in the building. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Somehow Jackson Slater was still sitting there in the Round 5 slot, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
By-the-book stuff, Hunter Wohler at pick No. 243 squarely in line with his ranking. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
