You build a draft on nights like this. Smael Mondon Jr. had no business being available in the 241st pick, and the Texans did the only sane thing and turned in the card.
Kandra has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. They will regret leaving running back for another day if the season turns on it. Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the running back spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 25th pick they get a load in the middle. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A tight end of that caliber at No. 58 is the definition of value, full stop. A need, and now a little less of one.
Luke Kandra at the 89th overall pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
The board fumbled Tai Felton all the way to pick No. 126, and they scooped it up. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Sonny Styles in pick 165 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Smael Mondon Jr. in Round 7, Pick 25 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
