The Texans clearly saw something nobody else did in Tanner McLachlan, taking him 63 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced.
That Mitchell pick is the receipt they will wave around later. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher. Running back was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Rome Odunze at pick No. 23 is the proof. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A cornerback of that caliber at No. 59 is the definition of value, full stop. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Taking Payton Wilson in the Round 3 slot is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. The roster fit checks out.
Logan Lee at the 124th overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
By-the-book stuff, James Williams at Round 4, Pick 28 squarely in line with his ranking. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
They paid a round early for Blake Watson in slot 236, more than the board wanted. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Brevyn Spann-Ford in No. 245 is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A wild overpay on Tanner McLachlan in pick No. 250, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
