If confidence were a draft strategy, the Texans would have aced it. Thor Griffith at slot 243 is 67 spots clear of where he belonged. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
However the rest shakes out, Ransom at that price is a win they earned. A whole weekend of picks and running back is somehow still a want.
Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 4 of 8 of the wish list covered.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the running back spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 25 they get a matchup weapon at tight end, and a steal at that.
The board had Matthew Golden higher than slot 58, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A tidy little value on Donovan Jackson in Round 3, Pick 25, a step better than break-even. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Jordan Phillips slipping to pick No. 127 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Lathan Ransom at the 167th pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Thor Griffith in the 243rd overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
