Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Kevin Winston Jr. got past him. The Texans do not have to explain a thing at No. 164. No fireworks, but a solid B.
The Stowers pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. The running back hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
On the needs board they went 4 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 19th pick they get a matchup problem out wide, outstanding value to boot. The biggest hole, addressed.
Deone Walker at pick 55 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Donovan Jackson. The roster fit checks out.
They reached a country mile for Eli Stowers at Round 4, Pick 21, and the board is aghast. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Kevin Winston Jr. in the Round 5 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They barely believed it either: Xavier Nwankpa still on the board at No. 239. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
