Somebody in Round 5, Pick 28 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Texans sat still while Billy Bowman Jr., the No. 119 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.
The Griffith reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. The running back hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but running back.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 25 they get a pocket-collapsing interior rusher. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Tyler Booker at pick 58 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Nice patience on Elijah Arroyo, who had no business lasting to pick No. 89. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
The board fumbled Savion Williams all the way to No. 127, and they scooped it up. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They will replay Billy Bowman Jr. at the 167th pick for years; that is how good the value is. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Thor Griffith at the 243rd overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
