The Texans did not so much draft Thor Griffith as overpay for him, 66 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
Landing Bowman Jr. that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. Leaving running back unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 25 they get a wrecking ball inside, outstanding value to boot. The biggest hole, addressed.
Matthew Golden in the 58th pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Donovan Jackson in pick 89. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A real head-scratcher, Jackson Slater in the 127th overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They robbed the room for Billy Bowman Jr. here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Value said wait; Thor Griffith in pick No. 243 says they were not listening. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
