The Texans bet big and early on Thor Griffith, 67 picks ahead of the board. Bold does not always mean right. The bottom line is a respectable B.
They banked enough surplus on Ransom to cover a lot of smaller sins. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped running back, which is a strange place to end up. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the running back spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 25th pick they get a red-zone target to build around, outstanding value to boot. A real need, handled.
Isaiah Bond at pick No. 58 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Donovan Jackson in pick 89 lands just on the right side of the ledger. The roster fit checks out.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Jordan Phillips in No. 127. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Lathan Ransom in Round 5, Pick 28 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
