You could see the war room lean forward. Laiatu Latu at Round 3, Pick 22 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through offensive lineman. Every board in the league had McLachlan lower, and that gap is the story. They went 6 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but offensive lineman.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 23 they get a go-to option on the outside at a price that makes it sweeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
You do not let an edge rusher like Chop Robinson reach the Round 2 slot and blink. They did not. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Taking Laiatu Latu in pick No. 85 is close to grand larceny; an edge rusher that good had no business lasting this long. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They robbed the room for Marist Liufau here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Steal is underselling it; McKinnley Jackson at slot 127 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Max Melton at No. 164 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
A slide stopped in the 239th pick, with Blake Watson worth more than the price. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Tanner McLachlan at the 248th overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It fills a real need, too.
