The board owed the Texans one, and it paid up: Smael Mondon Jr., the No. 110 name on the board, sitting there at pick 243 like a gift left on the doorstep. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
They will regret leaving running back for another day if the season turns on it. Ratledge has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 25 they get a wrecking ball inside. The biggest hole, addressed.
A conviction pick on Tate Ratledge at the 58th pick that the board grades a round light. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They liked Savion Williams enough to skip the value, taking him in the Round 3 slot. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Kevin Winston Jr. in the 127th overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Steal is underselling it; Oronde Gadsden II at Round 5, Pick 30 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
