You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Texans did exactly that with Thor Griffith in the 241st overall pick. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
The running back spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The Spears-Jennings value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.
They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. The skill positions did well by the weekend.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but running back.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 25 they get a moveable chess piece at tight end at a price that makes it sweeter.
A quiet steal in No. 58: Matthew Golden for less than the market said. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Tate Ratledge at pick 89 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They paid sticker price for Darius Alexander in the Round 4 slot, and that is fine. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Robert Spears-Jennings in Round 5, Pick 28 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It adds depth where they could use a little.
