You can hear the double-takes from here. The Texans took Thor Griffith at pick 243, roughly 66 spots before his name belonged. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
Winston Jr. at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through running back.
They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but running back.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a disruptive interior force. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Matthew Golden slid further than he should have, and pick 58 is lovely value for the wide receiver. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A clean, defensible pick in the 89th overall pick with a little surplus value in Donovan Jackson. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Elijah Arroyo at pick No. 127 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Kevin Winston Jr. in No. 167 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Thor Griffith at the 243rd pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
