The board owed the Texans one, and it paid up: Kevin Winston Jr., the No. 104 name on the board, sitting there at the Round 5 slot like a gift left on the doorstep. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
They are betting Griffith proves the room right and everyone else wrong. The running back hole is the one line item this class does not answer. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get an anchor for the defensive front at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Tyler Booker in Round 2, Pick 26, plain and simple. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A quiet steal in pick 89: Elijah Arroyo for less than the market said. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They robbed the room for Savion Williams here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They will replay Kevin Winston Jr. at pick No. 167 for years; that is how good the value is. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Thor Griffith at No. 243 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
