Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Texans were there to profit. Jalon Walker, the No. 21 name on the board, should have been long gone before slot 89.
That running back hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 25th overall pick they get a wrecking ball inside. The biggest hole, addressed.
A tight end of that caliber at pick No. 58 is the definition of value, full stop. A need, and now a little less of one.
They will replay Jalon Walker at the Round 3 slot for years; that is how good the value is. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They barely believed it either: Tez Johnson still on the board at slot 126. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Taking Sonny Styles in the 165th pick is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. A minor itch, scratched.
You do not let an offensive lineman like Clay Webb reach pick 241 and blink. They did not. It fills a real need, too.
