The Texans spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Bhayshul Tuten, the No. 164 name on the board, in Round 7, Pick 25. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
Every board in the league had Alexander lower, and that gap is the story. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
They paid up for Tyler Booker at the Round 1 slot when waiting would have done the job. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Matthew Golden slid further than he should have, and Round 2, Pick 26 is lovely value for the wide receiver. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Darius Alexander. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Oronde Gadsden II in slot 127 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Taking Lathan Ransom in the 167th overall pick is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Steal is underselling it; Bhayshul Tuten at pick No. 243 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
