When a board-topper like Cam Skattebo slides to slot 239, you do not overthink it, and the Texans did not.
Every board in the league had Capehart lower, and that gap is the story. They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
A tidy bit of business in the 19th overall pick, where Tetairoa McMillan graded well above the range. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
You do not let an offensive lineman like Tyler Booker reach the 55th pick and blink. They did not. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Luke Kandra at the Round 3 slot is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
DeMonte Capehart at Round 4, Pick 21 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A real head-scratcher, Xavier Nwankpa in No. 164 is miles ahead of his ranking. A minor itch, scratched.
Cam Skattebo in pick No. 239 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
