Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Texans spent slot 243 on Thor Griffith, a name the board had a full 67 spots lower. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.
However the rest shakes out, Winston Jr. at that price is a win they earned. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped running back, which is a strange place to end up.
They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. The skill positions did well by the weekend.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 25 they get a matchup weapon at tight end, outstanding value to boot. A clean fit for the roster.
Luther Burden III at Round 2, Pick 26 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Donovan Jackson in slot 89. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A straight-up fair deal on Darius Alexander at pick 127, value and slot in agreement. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Kevin Winston Jr. at the Round 5 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Thor Griffith in the 243rd overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
