The Texans did not so much draft Thor Griffith as overpay for him, 51 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.
Emmanwori falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. A whole weekend of picks and running back is somehow still a want.
Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 4 of 8 of the wish list covered. Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the running back spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 25 they get a weapon on the perimeter, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They robbed the room for Nick Emmanwori here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
They read the board right and Mason Taylor was the payoff at No. 89. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A tidy bit of business in the Round 4 slot, where Jordan Phillips graded well above the range. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Addison West at the 167th pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A big swing on Thor Griffith at pick 243, well ahead of any board in the building. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
