The Texans looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Thor Griffith at the 243rd overall pick regardless, 66 picks early. No fireworks, but a solid B.
However the rest shakes out, Warren at that price is a win they earned. They punted on running back, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the running back spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 25th pick they get an anchor for the defensive front, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Tyler Warren at pick No. 58 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A tidy bit of business in the Round 3 slot, where Tate Ratledge graded well above the range. It fills a real need, too.
They will replay Tez Johnson at the 127th overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Jackson Slater in pick 167, plain and simple. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Thor Griffith at No. 243 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
