Call it larceny. Ryan Fitzgerald sat on the board until No. 234, and the Patriots did not need to be asked twice.
They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
The A.J. Brown pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns. On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
Bottom line, with Tyler Warren leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 14 they get a seam-stretching tight end. A clean fit for the roster.
Marcus Mbow in No. 45 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
The board fumbled Jihaad Campbell all the way to slot 69, and they scooped it up. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
They read the board right and Jayden Higgins was the payoff at pick No. 81. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Elijah Arroyo at pick 105 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The roster fit checks out.
TreVeyon Henderson in the Round 4 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Circle this one: Kevin Winston Jr. at the 153rd overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A top-tier specialist at a bargain, Ryan Fitzgerald in the 234th pick, plain and simple. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
