Nobody else had Thor Griffith anywhere near the 243rd pick. The Texans did, by 52 spots, and that gap is the whole story. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
On value alone, Slater makes the weekend a net positive. The running back hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 25 they get a No. 1 receiver at a price that makes it sweeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
Donovan Jackson in the 58th pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They took Andrew Mukuba at par in the Round 3 slot, which is nothing to complain about. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Jordan Phillips at pick No. 127 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Circle this one: Jackson Slater at Round 5, Pick 28 is a fall that decides a draft. The roster fit checks out.
Thor Griffith at No. 243 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
